Yellowstone Vessels

Pouring Vessels
Animals and art have been linked from the beginning. The first recognized human artworks are cave paintings of animals which were important to the people who painted them. The arts have evolved over the last 30,000 years but there remains an undeniable link between artwork and animal figures. My work is an exploration of ancient pottery from cultures around the world. The plants and animals represented in their pottery were important to their cultures and religious ceremonies. In the American West the natural world plays a similar but evolved role. Throughout my life wild animals have always been a presence. I have portrayed some of these animals using forms inspired by ancient pottery. These works are an exploration within the ceramic tradition and my connection to the Yellowstone region.
